Go back in time Monument on Complex 14 ramp Zoom

This is the ramp leading up to the Complex 14 launch stand. Before it was razed in 1976, a mobile service structure would have been seen rising from the top of the launch stand. The monument on the ramp features an Atlas launch, and is inscribed as follows:

FROM THIS SITE, COMPLEX 14 AT CAPE CANAVERAL
AIR FORCE STATION, ASTRONAUT JOHN GLENN, JR.
BECAME THE FIRST AMERICAN TO ORBIT THE EARTH.
HIS THREE-ORBIT FLIGHT ON FEB. 20, 1962 WAS
FOLLOWED BY LONGER FLIGHTS BY SCOTT CARPENTER,
WALTER SCHIRRA, AND GORDON COOPER TO COMPLETE
PROJECT MERCURY, AMERICA'S FIRST STEPS ON
THE PATH TO SPACE.
