Faith 7: eight days to launch Zoom

An aerial photo of Complex 14 shows the mobile service structure rolled away from the Mercury Atlas rocket. The tankage at the lower left of the photo is the LOX storage and transfer facility. The trailers on this side of the launch stand are used to carry helium.

Eight days from now, on May 15th of 1963, L. Gordon Cooper, Jr. will launch on Faith 7 (officially designated MA-9) in the last flight of the Mercury project. The mission objective (one day in orbit) will be met: Cooper completed 22 orbits with an elapsed time of over 34 hours.
